The Tamworth Racing Club in conjunction with Racing NSW engaged Coffey Projects (Project Management Specialists) to select a suitable contractor to deliver a complete Design & Construction package for the new Race-day Function Centre Building. Submissions for the Design & Construction were invited from suitable experienced organisations. The New England proposal was considered the best value and was awarded the project. A contract was agreed to in late March 2012 with specific project milestones, and a completion date of 28th April 2013 for the Annual Tamworth Cup Race Meeting.
Working towards the tight deadline required finalisation of all client design ‘brief’ requirements; obtaining Development & Construction Certificate Approval from Tamworth City Council and the letting of all trade contracts for an on-site construction commencement in August 2012. The 8 month building programme was required so as not to disrupt the continued operations of the daily racecourse activities; an additional constraint required that construction noise or activities not commence earlier than 8.00am so as to minimise any interference to the daily horse training activities adjacent to the building site. With regular communications and a pro-active approach by New England’s Project & Site Manager during the building process, the project was successfully completed and opened to the public for the April 2013 Tamworth Cup Club Meeting.
